Founder
Pastor Archie Smith, a beloved figure and leader, served faithfully as the founder and Senior Pastor of Gates of Praise Christian Church for twelve impactful years, all under the guidance of Bishop Waymond, Sr., and Pastor Jackie Burton from Zina Christian Church in Raleigh, NC. Throughout his ministry, he was profoundly influenced by countless bishops and pastors who helped shape his journey.
As the Founder, President, and Visionary of Gods Generals, Inc., Pastor Archie dedicated his life to serving others until he peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home. His spiritual journey began on the second Sunday of January 1981 when he wholeheartedly committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ, embarking on a lifelong mission to share the Gospel. With an unwavering passion for evangelism, he joined the Good News Evangelistic team to spread the love of Christ door-to-door in various communities.
Driven by a deep hunger for the Word of God, Pastor Archie often found himself studying late into the night and dedicating time to prayer. Guided by the Holy Spirit, he sought out seminars, workshops, and Bible schools to enhance his knowledge and understanding. He proudly graduated from Bread from Heaven Bible School in Creedmoor under the influence of the late Dr. Mack Timberlake and attended More Than Conquerors College in Charlotte, NC, where he studied under Late Pastor Robyn Gool. His commitment to learning was evident in the numerous certificates he earned in pastoral subjects.
Pastor Archie L. Smith delivered his first sermon in 1986 and was ordained as an Elder/Minister in 1987, a testament to his devotion and the experience he gained as an Elder, Pastor, Sunday School teacher, Outreach Coordinator, and more in addition to his ministry, Pastor Archie held a degree in computer science and had a distinguished career spanning twenty-four years as a computer and IT systems analyst. His expertise earned him countless awards in security, programming, database management, and disaster recovery, alongside roles on various boards and teaching positions at the local college.
In college, Pastor Archie met Pastor Linda L. Smith, and they enjoyed over thirty-two wonderful years of marriage, blessed with five incredible daughters six grandsons, and 1 granddaughter.
Those who knew him would describe him as a man of great anointing—a devoted prayer warrior and a true servant of God who could share the Word with clarity and passion.
